On 30 October 2024, a shipping container arrived at Gypsy Brae — the starting point for something much bigger than a place to store equipment.

Getting the container into place was the first step. We then set about turning it into a secure base for an outdoor gym, giving us somewhere to keep equipment close to the track and bring fitness and physical activity into our sessions.
Building the gym
There was plenty to do after delivery. We opened it up, moved equipment in and started organising the space. Shelving, weights, benches, kettlebells, a punch bag and other training kit gradually turned an empty container into a practical training space.

It was never just about the equipment. The gym gave the young men another way to get active, build confidence, develop healthy routines and spend positive time together at Gypsy Brae.
More than a gym
Our sessions are about relationships as much as activities. Training side by side gives young men and staff time to talk, encourage one another, learn new skills and enjoy being outdoors. The space became part of a wider place to meet, train and connect.

What started with the arrival of a container became much more than storage. It created another base for physical wellbeing, shared experiences and the relationships at the heart of Midnight & Beyond’s work.
